As noted in the inscription, Heaviside was Royal surgeon to George III. He holds a human heart, while a spine rests in the jar behind him. These refer not only to his profession but to the well-known collection of anatomy and natural history that he assembled in his London home. Established and supported by a distinguished Texas physician and board member of the Texas Medical Association, the Ware Collection contains some 120 prints of medical imagery.
