Object Description: The three figures represent the three aspects of Sir Henry Bate Dudley: the central figure, his role as parson; the one facing left, that of barrister; the one facing right, dressed as an advertiser for the Morning Post, that of newspaper editor. Tied together by a rope, standing upon a bible and a letter box, the group satirizes Dudley’s falseness, as well as his taste for costume. At the same time, the composition refers to traditional emblems, and its drawing is quite fine.
