Object Description: Dana Pond was a well-known, early twentieth century portraitist whose style was similar to that of the far more famous John Singer Sargent. One of his best-known works is a full-length portrait of New York socialite Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt. The Massachusetts-born artist also enjoyed painting small impressionistic New England landscapes such as this one. Pond’s brushwork obscures any detail and a diffused light floods the entire scene.
