Object Description:
In the 1980’s, Victor Grippo created a series of stage set-like sculptures called “Balance” that featured small scenes illustrating physical acts of cause and effect. He followed it with a complementary series called “Imbalance” that includes “Esfera.” On the left side a red ball rests on a shelf next to a shattered white crucible. An unbroken crucible rests next to the shards, painted above it is red and black circle. Grippo’s puzzling tableau contrasts real objects with their two-dimensional images and unsettles scientific rules that connect cause with its possible effects.
